This is by far the best option for this price, the iphone is well over $600 (alot more than what we charge for the meizu) without a plan, and for T-Mobile users jailbreaking/sim card unlocking is a hassle!

Even though the AT&T store couldn’t get me an iPhone 3.0 until 2 weeks after I was eligible, they still wanted to charge me $300 instead of $200. This got me thinking. Specifically, it got me thinking about whether I wanted an iPhone. And then the major design flaws stood out like sore thumbs.

In these Patriot Act days of cellphone backdoors courtesy of “Diagnostic Mode”, a state that can be exploited to turn the phone into a bug even when switched off, the iPhone cannot be disabled. You’d have to take the battery out for that. And you can’t with an iPhone.

And round about the time I’m realizing that this is a gigantic security hole, I start reading of how the battery life on the new iPhone is bad. Apple is doing a re-run of the iPod battery issue that the user can’t fix again? Did no one in the design team consider that being able to replace the battery on a mobile phone is one of the most important aspects of its function for anyone who finds themselves busy? That’s just silly.

This video is the US government basically admitting it knows about and therefore exploits this diagnostic mode, backdoor technology, although it presents this information as part of a defensive strategy.

Of course, combine that with the Patriot Acts’ removal of the necessity for court orders to bug people, and you’ve got the whole country walking around with what amounts to a national ID card that includes GPS tracking, on-phone conversation/data recording, and off-phone real world conversation recording.

The only way to disable this is to take the battery out. Here’s the background:
